Welcome to D.C. !

In honor of Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 20, 2014) we are visiting Washington, D.C. this week.

We listened to his famous "I have a dream" speech, delivered on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial 


built to honor Abraham Lincoln, author of the "Emancipation Proclamation" which led to the end of slavery in the US

We continued our virtual tour with a stop at the Washington Monument


erected as a tribute to the first US president, George Washington, who led troops to victory against England in the Revolutionary War.


Next stop was 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, better known as the White House 


currently home to America's 44th president, Barack Obama 


we continued our visit with a stop at the Jefferson Memorial

                                           

which honors Thomas Jefferson, principal author of The Declaration of Independence and 3rd US president
