Haïti and Destiny Village

Once upon a time, there was a little boy named Emmanuel who lived on the beautiful island of Haïti. He loved to play soccer with his friends every day after school under the palm trees. One day, he kicked the ball too hard and it flew over a big wall. Emmanuel didn't know what was on the other side of the wall, so he decided to climb over and find his ball. On the other side, he saw a big blue building and in front of it was a little girl holding his soccer ball.

           

            "Allo  zanmi'm!" she said.

            "Hello my friend!" said Emmanuel, "What is your name?"

            "My name is Johanna" said the little girl, "I live in this big house right next to the ocean with all of my friends, the other children. It's called Destiny Village. We learn how to read and write in English and we all play games together."

            "Do you like to play soccer?" asked Emmanuel.

            "Yes!" said Johanna, "I like to play soccer and sing and dance. But I don't like voodoo dolls and earthquakes - I am scared of them."

            "Me too.." said Emmanuel "so let's go play soccer instead!"

            And the two children went to play soccer with the other children at Destiny Village who were very happy to meet their new friend!
