Father's Day #6 - Preteens and the iDad

The joy of Father's Day crafts continued with our Friday preteen group, but with a twist. Our final craft took us to uncharted territory as we combined gift and card in the iDad, a play on the Apple iPad. As our technology-loving preteens eagerly cut out their desired icons and assembled their iDad, we shared our favorite games and collective love for Apple. Then, underneath each icon, we carved out flaps to write our Father's Day messages.

Here's each of our preteens showing off what they made:

Virtually indistinguishable from the original

Another great iDad,
certain to satisfy the recipient

Personalized, decorated and ready for delivery!

Joining in on the fun with a slight deviation: multi-sized icons! Is there a possibility Apple might adopt this in the future? Only time will tell...

Father's Day #5 - Younger Bilinguals

Our Friday, it was time for our young bilingual group to attempt the mosaic paperweight craft. As the above result illustrates, they did a pretty stellar job!

Delicately arranging our pieces

So many options to explore! Choices...

Father's Day #4 - Older Bilinguals

Before starting on their Father's Day crafts, our older bilinguals had a little time to engage in a couple rounds of board games. It was a chance for everyone to show off their verbal prowess.

First up: Scrabble!

Mixing it up with some Bananagrams

After a few satisfying rounds, we returned to work on our crafts. Once again, we created mosaic paperweights, with everyone writing personalized messages on their tiles. Here's a sampling of some finished products:

We then moved onto our next project: the folded shirt card. Yet another chance for us all to sharpen our origami skills!

Father's Day #3 - Wednesday KidsCreate

Our creative ventures continued with our Wednesday group, as we once again revived the mosaic paperweight and folded shirt card.

But first, to put ourselves in a Father's Day mood, we began with a reading of the popular children's book Guess How Much I Love You.

Attentively listening
After awing at the sweet story of father-son love between Little and Big Nutbrown Hare, we commenced with our first craft: the mosaic paperweight.

Artfully arranging our mosaics

Here's a sampling of some completed projects. As with the other groups, each mosaic was unique, displaying personal style and flair, but all were colorful and beautiful.

We then industriously continued to our folded shirt cards and put our origami skills to the test. Through a series of near-perfect folds, we transformed our ordinary sheet of paper into a clean, crisp white shirt.

Father's Day #2 - Tuesday KidsCreate

Our Tuesday KidsCreate group likewise had the opportunity to participate in the joys of crafting our personalized mosaic paperweights.

Here are our kids hard at work:

An assortment of treasures:
which shall we choose?

Placed in the plaster, and ready for drying!

Learning some basic greetings
in the meantime...

We decided to mix it up with our card craft, however, choosing instead to create a pop-up regal crown card--fit for the man who is the king in our lives.

But first, we played around with some crowns: everyone just can't wait to be king!

After that brief diversion, we returned to work on our cards, as we decorated our crowns with sequins and carefully tried to figure out how to make our cards "pop-up."

What a great finished product!
