The Young Bilinguals meet The Very Grouchy Ladybug

Today, we only have one thing to say .....

No, seriously, today we discovered the world of Eric Carle's The Very Grouchy Ladybug

It's the story of a Grouchy Ladybug who tries to pick fights with various animals, big and small, throughout the day (24 hours). It's a great chance to learn numbers, how to tell time, and discuss good manners.

Here are the characters he meets :

Before listening to the story, we talked about being grouchy and then practiced making grouchy faces ... Here's Tanya the Grouch :

Grouchy Anna, Sacha and Valentine ...

Grouchy Osasumwen and Sarah :

and Victoria the Grouch (about to crack up !)

We experienced a very dramatic reading of the story, with Osasumwen in the role of the Grouchy Ladybug and Sarah playing the parts of the : friendly ladybug, yellow jacket, stag beetle, praying mantis, sparrow, lobster, skunk, boa constrictor, hyena, gorilla, rhinoceros, elephant, and whale. Brava !

Then the kids acted out the story using hand puppets :

This is the basic dialogue :

Then we learned the nursery rhyme “Ladybug Ladybug” :

· Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home. Your house is on fire and your children all gone. All except one, and that's little Ann, For she has crept under The frying pan.

And we personalized it for each child :

Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home. Your house is on fire And your children all gone. All except one, And that's little Anna, For she has crept under a banana.

Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home. Your house is on fire And your children all gone. All except one, And that's little Valentine, For she has crept under the grenadine.

Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home. Your house is on fire And your children all gone. All except one, And that's little Victoria, For she has crept under a piece of pizza.

Ladybug! Ladybug! Fly away home. Your house is on fire And your children all gone. All except one, And that's little Sacha, For he has crept under a piece of pizza.

Finally, we sculpted ladybugs out of modeling clay...

Here they are, before being painted (next Friday, when they are dry...)

A word of warning ...

LOL !!!
