The Young Bilinguals discover the "Greedy Zebra" and other animals

Friday was spent talking about animals and colors, beginning with a reading of Greedy Zebra.

The kids, studious as ever, sat reading calmly and quietly for about ten seconds...

...before launching into an interpretive-dance rendition of the story.

This was a nice segue into The Lion Sleeps Tonight, a song that truly spoke to the wild side of some of the kids.

Our interns feared for their lives during a game of "Zebra, Zebra, Leopard" -- a variation on "Duck, Duck, Goose".

Finally, we got started making models of that most frightening of all creatures : the butterfly.

The bugs were made by drawing colored arcs on coffee filters and then dipping them in water to let the colors spread.

Some of the butterflies came alive at one point, but the students chased them around the room and eventually we got everything under control.

Valentine spent much time considering where to put her initials on her butterfly for maximum impact.

Sacha, on the other hand, was far too busy picking his letters to even consider which placement would be the most intimidating.

Butterflies, as it turns out, are a lot more fun to play with when you make them yourself.
